JEFF BIRD – DIRECTOR/WRITER Jeff is an award winning filmmaker with extensive experience in the film and television industry, both in Australia and overseas. He has worked in a range of capacities, including directing, producing, cinematography and writing. His documentary film, Black Gold, Kindred Spirits, which was screened on ABC TV, won a number of awards, including the Gold Award for the documentary category at the WorldFest Charleston International Film Festival (US).
PADDY GORMAN – EXECUTIVE PRODUCER / WRITER Paddy is a Labour Movement journalist and author whose work has been published internationally. He is Director of the Miners’ Oral History Project and edited two books about the human face of Australian coal miners and their communities – At the Coalface and Back at the Coalface. He is co-author of The Coal Mine the Workers Ran and editor of the recently published mining history Holding the Line. Paddy was Script Editor and Associate Producer of the 2007 documentary Lockout and Associate Producer of the 2010 documentary Beneath Black Skies, both broadcast on Foxtel’s History Channel. He was also a Co-producer of the ABC Radio documentary Working for Coal and has been involved in a number of projects on modern Australian mining history.
DIANE MICHAEL and KERRY HERMAN – PRODUCERS Diane and Kerry are award-winning creative producers who established Red Cedar Productions in 2007. They are committed to developing and producing interesting and socially relevant documentaries which will engage audiences nationally and internationally. Their areas of interest are Australian history, social issues and human interest stories, all of which are encompassed in Last Stand At Nymboida.
MARK ATKIN, ASE – EDITOR Mark is an established Melbourne filmmaker with a career of more than 25 years. His experience covers feature films, documentaries, television drama, commercials and theatre. He graduated from Swinburne’s Film and Television School in 1981 and has worked in all facets of filmmaking. In July 2004, Mark was awarded accreditation by the Australian Screen Editors Guild. His editing credits cover more than 20 television productions and 40 documentaries including Jane Campion and The Portrait of a Lady and the award-winning Pozieres. Mark also writes and directs his own television documentaries.
SIMON SMITH – CINEMATOGRAPHER Simon is an award winning cinematographer whose career has taken him into countries and cultures the world over. He has worked for many international producers including the BBC and Channel 4 in Britain, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, PBS USA and NHK Japan. He has won awards for his cinematography in music videos for videos he shot and directed for Jimmy Barnes and Dannii Minogue, and for documentaries including Vietnam Symphony (2005), In the Company of Actors (2007) and The Pursuit of Excellence (2007). Simon is still amazed that, with a camera, he has been given entree into the lives of people in the Asia Pacific region, Europe, Africa and the US.
JOHN ROY – COMPOSER John is an experienced and award winning composer who has operated his production studio on the Central Coast of NSW since 1988. His services include sound mixing, sound design to ADR, original music composition and complete audio post services in all genres including TVCs, jingles, corporate, music arrangement, short films and documentaries. John’s music can be heard in the 2010 Telstra Mobile Masterpieces finalist film Design Crimes., the 2007 documentary Lockout broadcast on History Channel Australia/NZ and Mankind is No Island, winner of Tropfest New York 2008.
